Godshill Primary School

Godshill School is happy to be part of Teacher Training in Schools

The SCITT partnership offers a wide range of schools from small village to larger multi faith schools. The way and pace of life is relaxed, surrounded by stunning scenery, but the schools are vibrant and innovative. Facing many challenges, schools are working hard, within supportive communities, to provide the very best education for their children. The island includes areas of high deprivation, rural communities and seasonal employment and so it requires enthusiastic, passionate teachers who can make a difference. We offer a partnership of eleven very different schools, including a special school, to provide a rich and varied teaching experience. Within this setting, we seek to develop individuals as independent, reflective, creative, innovative and collaborative teachers.

We offer a  Personal Tutor system including on-going and prompt email and face to face pastoral / tutorial support and personal tutorials throughout the year to review progress and set developmental targets; access to a counselling service; bespoke study / subject knowledge skills support; personalised organisation of school experience placements taking into account individual needs; careers advice including mock interviews and support and feedback on writing job applications; detailed course assignment feedback.

OFSTED rated the primary training as 'good' during an inspection of the graduate teacher programme (GTP) and these strengths will be transferred to the new primary SCITT programme.

“Primary central- and school-based training, particularly in phonics, reading, writing and mathematics, is particularly impressive" Ofsted 2013
